Whether it's studying, working, or extra-curricular activities, how do you stay focused on your task?

Personally, I can't live without checklists, to-do lists, and reminders. Unpredictable distractions however, are another story.

I never ever remained focused for long periods. That changes based on what Im doing though.

I remain focused based on how deeply interested or passionate I am about something. It comes from inside and really not much else for me.

When I'm passionate about something I look forward to engaging in the activity or task, but whether or not I actually want to do something, little distractions hold me back a great deal. Things like a blaring TV, party noises, people talking to me while I'm working on something etc are extremely difficult for me to work through. Funny thing is if I'm in a frame of mind to listen to music and do something else at the same time, I'm actually more productive. Yet, if I need quiet to focus, the smallest things throw me off.

When i used to go UWI i stayed focus on studying by sleeping during the day and doing work at night when everyone is sleeping. Peace and quiet was my motto. I also never studied from notes and text book. I always wrote back my own notes using text book + lectures , examples and pass paper questions in 1 . So when i'm studying for a course i can be focused on 1 study material and not going back and forth to read from this and that.

Work - Lol i have no choice. Post its and reminders are my everything ! Especially a desk calender with the big blocks to write in LOL.

Gym + health - I stay focused by remembering my pain and what it was like to feel sick and helpless. I channel my worries, anger , fear and turn it into motivation. I also eat healthy because i don't want to see myself end up like others close to me. I think about how much i have to live for and that makes me focused.

At the most focused points in my life I found routines and "me time" that involved de-stressing activities quite crucial. Peace and quiet are just priceless lol

Destressing is mandatory, I can't speak for it anymore since I really don't take on a lot anymore. I do what I have to do without the worries... It doesn't always work but most times it does.

i usually listen music depending on the task sometimes it just gives you the extra boost to push further

When I'm working, I usually listen to music or podcasts, that helps me to stay focused and work longer without feeling stressed or fatigued. On a lighter note, my TV keeps me focused, really really focused. lol

Music is probably my favorite de-stressor and somehow it keeps me focused too. TV makes my brain feel like it's frizzing and popping away my brain cells.

Oh Yeah De-stressing - Taking small naps , eating ice-cream , watching my favourite youtube vloggers

I found this online and tried it with the FF13 soundtrack. It actually worked!

Try instrumentals or music without words. Sometimes it boosts focus and increases attention spans.

For nothing I can listen to music with words while trying to focus. Does not work. Never understood how some people can do it. However I get opposing results with my selection of trance. Helps me focus no matter the task. Its like a fuel additive that actually works :D

I tried it and nothing worked. Even the instrumental . I guess its not for me lol . I need absolute silence to be able to focus.

For raw 100% focus absolute silence. The music will always get in your mind a bit and keep you from being 100%.

Just proves how different things work for different people lol The last time I had total silence I kept stopping what I was doing thinking "it's too quiet...something's wrong!" and "shouldn't I be doing something else?" lol

Nah, you're weird :p

Jokes aside, yes people are different. When I need to really focus the silence is golden. I can read and remember something in one go in total silence. I can't do that when there is any sort of noise. Music included in that noise.

I cherish silence in a library or when I'm out in nature. I can seriously hear a pin drop in those environments and it would throw me off. At home, it's so noisy in this area that there isn't usually silence so if there's a lull in the noise I feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop lol In this case, I try to have noise that I can control that isn't too distracting like certain types of music so the video game soundtrack worked well for me. I focus on the task at hand, my thoughts, and concentrate on only letting the chosen music fill my background so I become a bit oblivious to the other noises in my environment.

The reason why i can never study in a library because i can only learn by the method talking out loud and to myself . Sometimes i will sing total crap too just to remember meanings or factors. LOL

That is the same reason why i cannot study while listening to music. I need to hear myself speak and talk to myself over and over until it sticks in my brain lol

I do that sometimes but it's really dependent on my mood. Sometimes I use images, words, songs, or smells to remember things. Eg. sometimes I would eat non-stop the entire time but sometimes I would need non-stop music or constant silence lol When I'm trying to remember things I let my brain go to random thoughts until something reminds me of what I need to recall.
