Why do people cut their dog's tail?

I know alot of people cut their rott's tails, why is that. Is that not animal cruelty?

Hmmm i do not know some people say

- Its a style
- Thats how it suppose to be
- It does make them vicious

So as to cut their ears as well ..I have a pitbull and i never cut anything off his body he's sweet as he is

People jus wicked.. it supposed to make the dog badder but i think cutting the tail an ears does handicap the dog. The dog needs those! Somebody should cut thier tail!

true...their ears are important to them just as how if any part of our ear is cutt of it affects our hearing..thats just cruel

Have you ever seen a pit bull with long tail and ears...They don't look agressive so thats why they have them cut but at a young age... I fine they look nice that way.. yes its alot cruelty to the animal but but but i have no explaination for my suggestion...

Well i read in wikipedia that they cut it off their tails to reduce infection, cuts and so on, i have to get the article because i'm not explain it well. I see alot of pit bulls with their tails and ears, so i don't think they should remove it, people only want to use the animal as a weapon but not as a pet. Its really a shame

Did you see the arctile where Jowelle (the he/she man) adopted the "devil dog"..... The dog bit a child and the Anilmal association wants to put him to sleep so Jowelle adopted the dog... Apparently according to "she", the dog's eyes are blue in colour so it looks weird and the kids provokes the dog calling him the devil dog, so he bit them....

I hear of some people cutting the pitbull's mouth to make it wider i don't know if thats true, but this kinda of animal cruelty has to stop is their some animal rights agency doing something to stop this, Madness and suffering to animals.

Look at that i have two Pitbulls and one is a bull Mastiff tiger colour and it is said if you cut especially that breed's tail and ears they will get more bad. growing up with my dog i cannot see how people can see it as a style to cut off their dogs tail and then burn the ends and watch your dog go thru pain although is by the vet. why people have to be so cruel? let the dogs be how they were born

To add to the reasons already mentioned, for those who want their dog as a form of security, do it because they believe that the ears and tail of the animal can be grabbed by a person who the dog is attacking, and cause serious injury to the animal. They believe that its a potential handicap. Sort of the same philosophy as to why the amy makes male officers shave thier hair. So the enemy can't grab it and cause injury.

Yep only for security reasons they will want to make there dog look furious. and those who like bad looking dogs too...
