So ost of you who tried to get to work most likely:

- took anywhere between 2 and 4 hours to reach (even for those who have 15 minute commutes normally)
- had to turn back home in frustration (like I did)
- get a thorough inspection at a road block

Do post up your experience today, and you thoughts on the police action.

The Police Association say it is a "Total Day of Policing" and have nothing to do with salary negotiations

I was forced to turn back this morning. After hearing from people who left home at 6am and didn't reach Barataria by 10:30 it was an obvious decision but I still tried it for myself. Came out the road, got on the highway and turned back. It did not make sense at 10:05am to proceed any further.

I don't know why citizens have to pay the price when police want more money. We don't directly pay them. They should take action that doesn't involve the citizens. They operating just like UWI lecturers who chose to hold students' grades until they were given some sort of settlement.

Life is really unfair in this country.

A lot of people have pointed out that law abiding citizens who are working and studying are the ones paying the price here, while the criminals are sleeping or hiding out. I think this activity is to prove a point or something, because inconveniencing everyone like this makes no sense. It seems like a lot of people are going to miss work and school and postpone appointments etc because of this, meaning that our country cannot be fully functional while this goes on. I can understand the importance of having the cars on the road in check, but not at the expense of so many people. This is not very far from an actual national shutdown.

Yea today was a mess good thing i got a message about it early cause that would of been stress.......i feel sorry for the people who actually travel and had to endure it

I left home in Diego at 6:30am.... 8am reach and I did not reach Four Roads yet. I turned back.

A police friend of me was having a field day laughing at us regular citizens on FB along with her colleagues. "We wukking", was the caption. She block/unfriend 30 of her fb friends today over this.

Watching Insp. Alexander right now, and he defending the action HARD today

This man really OK with an operation which did not reflect an immediate threat to national security?
As far as I concerned, the Police (with backing from the Army) could take over this country with a coup. Rogue elements ow know how to

All of that said, I do hope they get their salary increase, but dammit, this is not the way to do it!

you are right this is not the way to do it....i hope they have something to show after all of this like how much criminals were actually caught or intercepted.....

I Leaving home 3:45am tomorrow just to make it before any intended road blocks. Hope its does not continue onwards.

This is what people have to resort to if they want to avoid having work related problems for something beyond their control.

I agree with all of you, this is no way to go about getting a pay raise. We don't pay them directly and there is absolutely no reason why we should be the ones to pay the price for it.

I even heard that officers were doing nonsense like pulling dipsticks to check people's oils and checking tyre pressure. I heard it went as far as to extend to everyone in the traffic this morning. I'm glad I followed my instincts as I'm almost sure they would have stopped me and tried to ticket me as my vehicle is commercially licensed as "T" despite the fact that it is 100% road legal as deemed by License office in December 2014. Given my straight highway journey, it would have made absolutely no sense to proceed as well.

Taking the emphasis away from myself, why do we have to pay the price for something that we do not control? What does stopping an entire nation achieve for these people?

I cannot believe somebody would consider themselves a member of the protective forces when they are captioning useless social media and removing their friends over something so silly. Its hard to believe that Inspector Alexander also supported this fully and I heard him over the radio backing this nonsense. Did they really expect to catch any criminal elements this morning? Its a lot of these same protective forces people who engage in illegal activity. I'm almost certain no serious criminals were caught this morning as they would have used their common sense in addition to their contacts to figure out what was happening so they probably chose to stay at home and relax while watching all of us hustling to get to our destinations with a smile on their faces.

My work is close to home so i was not affected at all. However, it took a toll on our citizens. I cannot imagine how much frustration, pain, inconvenience and hurt this caused alot people.

My opinion is that the Police Service went about this all wrong. Look at the logics :

1. The police service want an increase
2. Who gives them this increase ? Answer: The government
3. Why would holding a roadblock get you the increase?
4. How would inconveniencing citizens get you the increase?
5. The solution was simply by solely targeting the government
6. Ministers pass through roadblocks using escort services how about refusing to escort them and let them see how it does
feel to be stuck in traffic for hours on a morning !
7. How about refusing to show up to work or no police presence in certain areas or not watching over security affairs.
Now that would of been something !

8. Instead the entire population was held back due to this stupid excuse of a road block .

If they really intended to catch criminals, why not hold roadblocks only in areas of high activity or conduct raids there? I saw on social media that even passengers in maxis and taxis were asked to empty their handbags. WTF! How does what a woman has in her purse, for instance, get them a raise? "Well Minister, you see these tubes of lipstick and a cell phone? Better gimme dat raise now eh!" Truly a compelling argument *sarcasm* I'm also waiting to hear what the results were to explain the supposed importance of this. Because a few people's tire pressure is oh so dangerous to our economy, way more important than the pedophiles, rapists, and thieves out there.

The video of my experience yesterday. I'll also post in the dash cam thread.
