It's been a looong while sine i've posted free software so here goes,

LMMS aka Linux MultiMedia Studio is a free (open source?) music sequencer that anyone can use. truly anyone, you don't even need to be able to read music, all the musical qualities of the project are graphically portrayed. (volume, pitch, length, pan of individual notes and or entire note sequence (for individual instrument tracks), the time signature, bpm, there an automation tool to add more control, built in modifiers and beat makers). you can even connect your MIDI keyboard!
It accepts MIDI and FL files. (as imports)
You export your file in .wav or .ogg file, which makes Audacity a very good companion program for LMMS.
There's also separate controls for FX.

Basically you have a small scale studio on your hands, if you need to do a demo or simple jingle is fully capable, even if you want to create the final product with it. ( well to me :D, but that'll take some serious skills lol)
The best thing is that you can also import plugins ( compatibles with those from other music sequencers) and samples, so you have loads of freedom to use what ever tones and samples you want.. (samples are .oog or .wav files)
It's still only on version 0.4.7 and professional users have reported glitches and crashes with it, but despite this it is still a very versatile, intuitive program sufficient for complete newbs. There are few tutorials on YouTube which are awesome for learning the basics.

First check out the demos from the creators and testers of LMMS:

And the home page:

Don't forget to try it out, its incredibly easy, and you learn it quickly.

Hear one of the demos a user from YouTube put up (Ceberus1107) made by Siegel It's called Dream Wave.
