Then maybe we should do something to change that eg encouraging & educating vs discriminating.

Well when you consider that a lot of people will work in the auto industry for a job more than to actually learn the trade, it makes sense why they wouldn't necessarily know a lot. Discrimination is really not the problem where I'm concerned.

I have tried through casual talks to throw a little bit of education here and there but most people, including men don't really care. Its only when they have a problem then they will remember i used to talk about it and come and ask and actually have interest then. Once resolved, its back to the old. Then they will faster go with what the $200 mechanic tell them rather than read and actually try to see how relevant all the details I would give them would be.

I don't know a lot of people in modern time who actually know automotive in detail in general. One would think that basics like checking oil or tires would be common knowledge but it turns out that I've seen girls who check their oil level and guys who don't know the first clue how to use a scissor jack.

So while it would be nice to encourage and not discriminate, its easier said than done as I have attempted to do so previously.

I get what you're saying and I think it's good that you try. It's like the stereotype that only women clean or are good at cleaning but if someone previously uninterested in cleaning finds a spot on something they care about eg. upholstery, car exterior, hand bag, furniture, etc male or female, they will want to know how to remove it properly without doing any damage and suddenly be very interested and eager to learn, albeit some would prefer to pay someone else to handle it. For many people certain topics including car care and maintenance just doesn't seem relevant enough until something happens despite the benefits of knowing about things that affect your life on a regular basis.
