Laqtel Sued

With Flow’s residential rate hikes scheduled for November and TSTT workers marching against “restructuring” when the thought that we would eventually see a resurgence of another competitor in the cellular arena, the Express reports that Laqtel has been sued for a breach of contract.
THE Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) has filed legal action against proposed cellular service provider, Laqtel, in respect of a breach of its concession agreement.
TATT said yesterday that Laqtel was issued its concession in December 2005, for the operation of a public domestic mobile telecommunications network and provision of public domestic mobile telecommunications services.
Well so much for the a “100% locally owned Trinidad and Tobago Company” even though TATT says that if Laqtel fails to come through that they will be looking for another telecommunications provider to replace Laqtel, so as to ensure that there is greater competition in the now liberalized local telecommunications industry.
I won’t yet count them out even though it seems that their investor search in Dubai has not borne fruit but with the upcoming general election its anyones guess. We have previously found them to be lacking though.
