TT Entertainment Company

Stemming from the feature address at the launch of the Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Services Industry in August 2006 the then incorporated and now launched Trinidad and Tobago Entertainment Company (TT Ent) is a statutory agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

It is responsible for facilitating the development of a globally competitive entertainment industry. The objectives of TT Ent are as follows:

1. To facilitate international exposure of our local entertainers;
2. To market and promote the national creativity;
3. To ensure that Trinidad and Tobago is identified not only as the home of steel pan but also as the home of Soca, chutney and calypso;
4. To influence positive perception of Trinidad and Tobago’s arts and culture abroad;
5. To assist local entertainers and artistes in accessing funding for projects geared towards the export market;
6. To facilitate private sector investment both locally and abroad into the entertainment industry.

Originally holding a logo competition open to citizens of Trinidad and Tobago for a $10,000 prize , they have seemingly picked the winning design. The winning design appeared on a short list derived from the response of the public with 14 logos on display at the recent Trade Investment Convention.

Early concepts by designer Ian Reid and the feedback can be seen via Creative Bits.

Now that they have a logo they can concentrate on utilizing either the unused TTENT.co.tt or the TTENT.tt domain as TTENT.com is already owned and operated by Top Three Entertainment. Better yet they can resurrect the EntertainTNT.com by reaching out to TIDCO.

What are you thoughts on Ian’s concepts and the final logo?

I don’t like the final logo. It’s very busy and there is nothing new about it. It looks like other TT logos I’ve seen … like something designed for/inspired by Carnival. TT remains stuck in the notion that our ‘entertainment’ and ‘culture’ begin and end with Carnival. This is limiting because there are so many other art forms here. I am a minimalist at heart. I like Ian’s bottom line, second from left. I like the fact that it’s not red, black and white and the simplicity of ‘press play’ says a lot to me. It’s a simple, campaignable icon that need no long rationale and leaves no questions. But at the end of the day it’s ‘too simple’ for those who wish to see the culture/entertainment (aka Carnival) of TT immortalized in logo form.

I have to agree with Elspeth. My eye went the press play logo as well. Besides, something about it just captures your attention, and although it’s simple, it makes a statement.

I am a little amazed that Wendy H Lewis has been appointed as the new CEO of TT Ent with fake credentials!! She has gone through life creating a false name for herself by cheating folks of their hard earned money without a care in the world. TT Ent was created with the intention of promoting our local entertainers with a positive of who Trinidad & Tobago is. Wendy does not represent that. She represents someone who should have been where she is through pure hard work and integrity…..not off of other people blood and sweat. She could never be an Ella Andell, Faye-ann, Denise Plummer, Denise Belforn or even Destra, because these strong women stand for truthfulness and have worked hard on pure talent!

Mr or Mrs Concerned clearly does not know Wendy how we know her. I am an artiste for the past 12 years and the contribution Wendy has made in her first 6 weeks, was not made in the past 2 years that TT Ent was in existence. We didnt even know TT Ent existed until wendy joined. Wendy no matter what you do or where you go, you cant please everybody. We salute you! And actually its ironic my name is mentioned up there and Wendy is one of the greatest friends I have in the business. Keep your head up, you are representing all women who are challenged in a man’s world!

Dear Angel in Disguise,
It saddens me to read your vociferous defense of Wendy. Perhaps it is you who really does not know Wendy for her true self. I would strongly suggest that you do not take anything for granted, no matter how many years you have been in the entertainment business. As with evrything and everyone now, it is advisable to check their backgrounds, preferably without their knowledge. You may be shocked at your findings, if done correctly. Now is certainly not the time to be naive.

Hahahahahahahah! What a load of rubbish! Angel in disguise if your name is mentioned there then why dont you come out and say who you are? is it Ella? Denyse? Fay-Anne? Destra? or is wendy impersonating you… I wonder what non starters and rubbish will Wendy be promoting for Carnival 2k10? Or will she lie and say that she is project manager for Beyonce’s concert? I have no problem in applauding Miss Wendy H Lewis for her ventures as long as they dont involve lying about herself and what she have done. In this business Wendy, reputation matters. And only losers and crazy people will trust you.

Dear Angel in Disguise,
I would strongly advise both yourself and anyone who has dealings with Wendy to do a thorough background check without her knowledge. You may be shocked at your findings. Perhaps it is you who does not know Wendy for her true self, no matter how long you have known her or have been in the entertainment business. Now is certainly not the time to be naive.

All of the above is so amazingly interesting, I just had to comment. Whilst you all are taking time off your clearly not so busy schedules to defame Wendy’s character, I would like to applaud her for her Carnival Promotion the Carnival Maxi 2k10 where she had 7 big entertainers at a different location each Thursday, Friday & Saturday for 6 weeks along with a rhythm section etc to promote the artform. Also her Artist Development Program which will be starting in 2 weeks. What has the Trinidad & Tobago Entertainment Co done for carnival or culture for that matter? The new CEO, Ms Dionne Mc Nicolls who was the former Secretary replaced Wendy to do what exactly????. I do not pass on propaganda or rumours, I deal with the facts. Have a nice day all. It is so much better to say something nice about someone than to join the unpleasantries, particularly when neither of us are perfect.

Umm, @ Interested: firstly there’s a huge difference between a secretary and a corporate secretary mind you.

secondly: I dont have interpersonal relations with the lady but are you all trying to defend someone because of their “acts of kindness” while faking credentials? Come on, how low do you have to be. If she was really that good then why did she need to fake credentials?

thirdly maybe you should pick up a book and read TTENTs mandate and compare it to what they have done thus far. Hint: In case you’re too lazy to do this, it has nothing to do with Carnival, Culture or local promotion.

I was reading the above comments for some time now and no matter how long things take to unfold, the truth always surface…..Anybody care to comment as to why Alvin Daniel and the entire board at the Trinidad and Tobago Entertaiment Compzny got fired???? The papers said “Inappropriate use of governemnt funds and Board members benefiting from conflicts of interest…..
