Water Monopoly

Is WASA really a monopoly on the water supply or is it all just a game? With the burgeoning demand for bottled water and the marketing of brands to the public it seems that many questions may be left unanswered as to the source and the quality of the supply especially during the drier months of the year.

It seems that the abundant supply of water is coming in the bottled form from various private entities.

With our well known problems, of domestic and industrial wastage, 50 per cent losses from the poorly maintained distribution system, and, of course, continued failure to address these problem.

To this we might add the over extraction of some of our aquifers resulting in saltwater intrusion, and, the failure to recycle processed water, as is done in many countries.

We have moved toward constructing desalination plants pdf to reduce the drain on the supply by the industrial estates but have not seen a significant increase in service during those dry months to consumers.

So where is the bottled water sourced from, if anyone knows feel free to enlighten me.

Water woes is the one problem I can actually see Trinis untiting against or for.

Because it is the one thing we are all suffering for.

Whether it be the office clerk in Gonzales or the Doctor wife in Alyce Glen.

Both could spend a long time comparing notes on calling Wasa, trying to care for their little children and waiting for the water truck.

The problem is the Doctor wife not talking to the clerk. The clerk don’t believe she waiting for water too.
The doctor wife not even seeing the clerk.

Mean while over this bad dry season I hear they selling water by the bucket in Chicklands, and did think - Iz livin in Haiti o wat.
