Trinidad and Tobago Online Radio | Allyuh | Blog

Making it easier to stay in touch with the happenings in Trinidad and Tobago when outside of the country has always boded well. Before the recent launch of the TV Stations and the ability to pay $1US for an Express or Guardian in Brooklyn the day after it hits the streets of Port Of Spain we have had the radio stations streaming online for quite a while.

The number of stations online has also grown exponentially and kept up with the number of radio licenses rewarded in Trinidad. It is now standard practice that when a station has launched on the airwaves that a similar online streaming launch takes place as was seen by the recent launch of WinTV that went live online and on the airwaves simultaneously.

One of the unknowns however is how does the radio station fare with respect to paying for the use of copyrighted content similar to the challenges that the TV stations have and what say does COTT have in the matter for the local content being beamed worldwide.

A turning point may come in September if the royalty fee situation extends to those operating within Trinidad forcing those broadcasters to fork over a fee for every song played, but this may only apply if these stations are currently paying for the the over the air songs.

I honestly don’t know if the stations currently subscribe to paying those fees and hence may be the real pirates of the Caribbean.
