Akon Apology

In a statement released Wednesday to the Associated Press, Akon said he was sorry for the incident, but also said he didn’t know Danah was underage.

“I want to sincerely apologize for the embarrassment and any pain I’ve caused to the young woman who joined me on stage, her family and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert,” Akon said.

“It was never my intention to embarrass or take advantage of my fans in any way, especially those under the age of 18. That is why we tried to make sure that the club did not admit anyone under 18 in the audience,” he said. “Somehow, that standard was not met.”

This hopefully brings some closure to the incident and to Danah as the police have already closed any investigation into the matter.

This apology seems to now be reactionary as both Fox and CNN have highlighted it after Verizon disconnected Akon.

It is left for you to decide that had the chain of events not taken place with Verizon, Fox and CNN and the increased scrutiny from a larger market of consumers would an apology have happened.

Seeing that Akon and his camp have remained quiet from the onset with only damage control tactics in play, this public relations move may be too little too late and would have been viewed more positively had it been sooner.

What do you think of this apology?

Oh please, Akon did nothing wrong. That girl should not have been in that club anyway! She knew what she was doing and is trying to play the victim. Girls are too fast in general these days.

You can diffuse anything really if you apologize, but when you do it, that’s the question. He waited too long and regardless of what he said, I think it should be discarded. In the same breath, was he really guilty? That sort of thing goes on in clubs, it’s no big deal, we know that, and she had no right to be in there to begin with and as far as HE was concerned, she was 18. In any case, his apology seemed rather generic.

its funny that people say they lost respect for Akon… nobody cares

Akon is my hero because he made a bunch of people look like jackasses for saying they lost his respect

[...] Akon has again said sorry to the world for the things he has done but this time via song and by extension [...]
