Caterpillar

Came across this snapshot and thought it poignant. Sunday Snapshots might become a regular feature. What do you think?

Was visiting Trinidad last week. Saw this caterpillar at the La Vega Estate in Gran Couva. It was on a different plant. Saw them again in the Tableland area, but the owner of the property was destroying them. I asked them nicely not to do that, but they did not heed my words. I tried finding some info on Google, but can’t find anything. What the name of the butterfly? Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you

They are pest, observing them for years now and never saw any or moths or butterfly s just finished killing some today. they seem only to eat this particular plant in your photo, and are toxic. Almost killed my dog.

This is a caterpillar of the frangipani hawkmoth, Pseudosphinx tetrio. They feed on frangipani as in your picture, and a few other plants like Allamanda. There is a short article I wrote about it in the 2008 issue Living World (Journal of the Trinidad and Tobago Field Naturalists Club).
