Featured Friday - LeXXXus Sound
Apr 6th, 2007 by Dre
Following up from yesterday’s Part 1 of this week’s Featured Friday, we have mixtape producers LeXXXus Sound discussing the past, present and future of the mixtape industry and music business in Trinidad and Tobago.
If you can’t wait to read the interview and you are looking for the album release, scroll to the end, click the link and set the album to download while you read.
So on with the remainder of the interview:
With contenders like First Priority Music (FPM), Music 3000, Dr. Hyde and my personal favorite Chinese Laundry, who would you say was the best out of all the local old school mix tape DJ’s?
Honestly there was a guy by the name of Big Rich I think he was from FPM. I heard his stuff and that really inspired me as the mixes were out of this world. Other than him I thought Dr. Hyde and Black Chariot were really good.
Who is your pick for the international best ever mix tape DJ competition?
Hmmm, good question I would say:
Reggae - Black Chiney
Hip Hop - Green Lantern
Soca - DJ Spice from New York
DJ Spice won the award last year but look out for Crown Prince and of course LeXXXus this year. Other than that we would just have to wait around for Justo’s Mix Tape Awards.
Would you say that playing music is a profitable business in Trinidad?
No, so far no profit. The guys who have been in it from a long time ago are enjoying the benefits but it’s been a slow period in the industry for the last few years and I don’t see it getting any better.
So you wouldn’t advise getting into the business?
If it’s more than a hobby and a passion for you it would be frustrating for someone trying to make it a living.
What is your opinion on piracy?
Honestly… I support it. Many artistes music got where it is today because of it. Napster, street vendors and mixtapes have all helped a lot of artiste and got them bookings in various places just off that. Look at The Reggae All Stars!
What are some of your favorite sites besides Allyuh?
Our Myspace page
Soccernet
Soca Warriors
TriniJungleJuice who have and will continue to support us all the way.
It’s Freestyle Friday - Tell us something, anything you want!
ALLYUH EVER WONDER WHY THE CALL IT A PAINTING IF IT ALREADY PAINTED????
What do you see happening with LeXXXus in the next few years?
Honestly I’m not sure. From day one I’ve been seeing nothing but rapid progress but yet only saw slow progress but I guess FORWARD EVER BACKWARD NEVER. In reality I would hope something revolutionary @ least in Trini maybe a serious mixtape market starting up you know so if we are to be the best it won’t be because we are the only people doing it.
Now the release of the link that we have all been waiting on.
You will be taken to a page where you need to skip the pop-up ad, enter the security code, hit the download button and wait approximately 1 minute for the download to begin.
The mixtape itself is one complete MP3 file, 106MB in size and 1hour 17 minutes and 48 seconds of music. Ideal to drop on the IPod or MP3 player on your way out of the door, in transit or in the gym.
Listen to it and feel free to leave any comments for LeXXXus here.
