Allyuh Music - TriniHits
Feb 12th, 2007 by Dre
So new to the fete and I suspect in anticipation of the Carnival hype is the music startup TriniHits. Tell me what Allyuh think. Is it that the Gillette Group has been endorsed by COTT as the mainstay of Trinidad music?
One wonders why COTT did not take their entire library/catalogue and go directly to an established platform such as ITunes. Surely the leverage may have been an entire genre thereby taking our music to the level that I am sure we would like to see as well as hopefully better financial returns on said library.
To be honest it is not as bad as similar offerings such as ISoca.ca which still has not worked out its own domain issues and 2005 copyright notice, even though TriniHits needs to decide on if it wants to use all CAPS as in its logo or all lowercase as in the Terms of Use.
In terms of usability it’s not even in the same all-inclusive as ITunes which we all know is the current standard for any music store. A couple of quick adjustments couldn’t possibly hurt, such as the tacky initial $2.00 per song crossed out to reflect $0.99 (USD). TriniHits, honestly, everyone knows that your target market consumer is already conditioned at that price point, anything higher on your part would have been a death knoll.
Just a couple quick parting questions though:
1. Did the Calysonian Association “OK” this?
2. What are the financial terms surrounding the deal?
3. Does TriniHits even accept Dookeran’s?
4. Does the “Ice, Gold and Green” in the header really represent Trini?
5. TriniHits is the #1 source for Caribbean Music, similar to the Trinidad Express for Caribbean news?
Or is this better left for Mani to dissect with relevant conspiracy theories?
I do however wish them the best as this hopefully presents another avenue for our artists to earn a living (hopefully).
Lemme know what Allyuh think.
